Love the Earth as You Love Your Valentine!

Celebrating Love Sustainably – At Fleuris Orchard & Blooms, we believe love should be celebrated all year long—especially when flowers are in season!

While Valentine’s Day flowers have been a cherished tradition since the 19th century, we’ve made a conscious decision not to offer fresh flowers for the holiday. Why? Because sustainability and seasonality are at the heart of everything we do.

In February, most flowers available in Victoria are either imported from across the world or grown in high-energy greenhouses, leaving a significant environmental impact. Instead of participating in this unsustainable cycle, we invite you to celebrate love in a way that cares for both your special someone and the planet.

Choose Love—For Your Valentine and the Earth

Flawless flowers in February often come at a hidden cost. Most Valentine’s Day blooms are either imported from faraway countries—available only at the expense of a massive carbon footprint—or grown in energy-intensive greenhouses to force them into bloom. Many flowers, especially imported Valentine’s roses, are heavily treated with pesticides and preservatives to withstand the long journey, bringing home an invisible trail of chemicals.

The first instinct when receiving flowers is to lean in and take in their beauty—shouldn’t that be a fresh, natural fragrance rather than an odourless cloud of chemicals? By choosing seasonal, locally grown flowers, you’re not only supporting small-scale flower farms but also reducing waste and protecting the environment. Now that’s a love story worth celebrating.

A More Meaningful Alternative: Flower Subscriptions & Floral Workshops

Instead of Valentine’s Day flowers, why not gift something that lasts?

Flower Subscriptions – A Gift That Blooms All Season
A truly romantic and thoughtful gesture, our flower subscriptions bring the joy of fresh, locally grown blooms from April to October. Whether it’s petite posies, hand-tied bouquets, or elegant vase arrangements, each bundle is a beautiful reminder of your love and appreciation, celebrating the seasons with nature’s finest.

We highly recommend picking up your subscription flowers after a peaceful walk through PKOLS (Mount Douglas Park), just a minute past our farm at the end of our road. A perfect way to slow down, soak in nature, and bring home a little extra beauty with your flowers!

Floral Design Workshops – A Gift of Magic and Creativity
Give the gift of an unforgettable experience! Set in our lush orchard garden at the height of bloom, our hands-on workshops offer an inspiring and immersive way to celebrate the beauty of flowers together. Your loved one will not only create stunning arrangements but also take home skills and memories to cherish for years to come.

Still Want to Gift Flowers for Valentine’s Day? Here’s How to Do It Sustainably

Choose locally grown dried flower bouquets – Stunning and long-lasting, dried flowers carry beauty through the seasons.

Look for local growers forcing tulips and bulbs – Some farms ethically force bulbs to bloom in winter using minimal electricity and no harmful chemicals.

Source fair-trade, sustainably grown flowers – If you must have fresh flowers (like red roses), ask your florist about ethically grown, fair-trade options. Be aware that imported flowers, even if organic, are still heavily treated to cross borders and there is a lot of greenwashing happening in Victoria.

This Valentine’s Day, let’s celebrate love in a way that nourishes both our hearts and our planet.

💕 Choose slow flowers. Choose sustainability. Choose love that lasts. 💕
